Happy Tuesday,
I come bearing gifts.
Gifts in the form of companies that are hiring.
Let's get started.
Whats Going On Outside
I love this tweet by David Schawel because it speaks to the thesis behind a lot of the companies I feature on Rocketship Jobs.
Work from home will continue to grow, e-commerce will do the same and anything else that has to do with an analog to digital transformation. The speed at which digital is growing currently will probably slow down once the world figures out Covid but pandora's box is open.
Digital is the new normal (don’t get me started on Bitcoin and cryptocurrency 😁 )
Speaking of Ecommerce, this report by Base10 (a venture capital firm) is a great analysis. It’s worth a look.
Also, many of these companies are hiring. I haven’t examined them in-depth but if you don’t want to wait for me, feel free to dive in and do some research on your own. I would love to discuss your findings with you if you would like to.
This is just another example of the transformation that is happening. Stripe is the payment structure of the internet. If they're doing well, it is a good sign for internet businesses as a whole!
By the way, have you checked out this company that is trying to compete with Stripe? The more I learn about them the better chance I think that have at becoming huge!
Update to the Rockets
Remember Privy, we covered them a few weeks ago. They’re living up to expectations. They’re not hiring anymore but I would stay close to the founder Ben and the leadership team if you’re interested in joining the team one day.
Gong is a company I featured prior to deciding that I wanted this newsletter to be focused more on very early-stage companies. Gong is a Series D company so no longer fits what we are looking to do here. That said, they are hiring if you are interested.
Also, I find that a rising tide tends to lift all boats.
Gong is growing so I imagine their competitor Fireflies.ai is doing very well also. Website traffic has no direct relationship with revenue but typically more traffic is a good thing. Fireflies.ai has received an additional 30k visitors to their site in the month of July as they did in the month of June. Here is my post on them, they’re worth checking out. Although I am not sure if they are still hiring or not. I would reach out to the CEO or CTO if you're interested.
Maybe a Rocket...
Circle App is an interesting company. It recently launched out of Beta on August 10th after receiving a lot of fanfare.
Ankur Kurnagpa, the founder of Teachable and Sahil Lavinga the founder of Gumroad are both early investors. I am not 100% sold on the viability of the product but I am open to a discussion about it. Jason Lemkin did a good rant on the topic a few days ago. The big key is, it is very hard to create a community in a place that people don’t already naturally go. This is why FB groups are so good and everything else is only ok.
That said if you disagree with me, they are hiring (below). If I am wrong, this has the opportunity to be a very big company. Communities are the driving force behind so many companies today.
Outside of Circle there have been some other very interesting things happening in the world of Rocketships.
1. Parabola recently raised their series A funding of $8M.
Parabola is a no-code product that helps automate manual and repetitive tasks. Automation is an interesting space and no code even more so. I am not super well versed with Parabola’s business but I would definitely recommend checking them out.
They are hiring in Engineering, Design and Marketing. The positions are all located in San Francisco.
2. Andrew Wilkinson tweeted about this new calendar app Ready.so. I know nothing about this product but ever since Microsoft bought the Sunrise calendar app in 2015 it seems nobody has been able to figure out a good solution. From the tweet replies, people seem to believe in the idea behind this app and they’re hiring. They currently have openings in Engineering only but mentioned in the next 12 months they will be hiring in Design, Product, Marketing and Ops. They are a fully remote company so you can be anywhere in the world as long as you can meet during the hours of 12PM - 3PM EST.
3. TikTok is being banned. At least that has been a big topic of conversation over the last few weeks. How it will play out I don’t think anyone knows. What I do know is that if TikTok is banned in the US another app will need to take its place.
Byte has the potential to take TikTok's place. They were founded by the team that created Vine so they have a history at building great social apps. That said, I don’t know anyone that uses Byte. That is typically how I weight social media apps. If you feel good about what Byte is building check them out, they are hiring in Engineering and Community Management.
4. I stumbled across this interesting company called Stir. Want to know what I know about it? Almost nothing. The reason I am mentioning it here is because some things stood out to me about it.
Stir isn't hiring yet but I will keep it on my radar for sure and keep you posted on it.
