What those three things have to do with each other will be revealed in the Potential Rockets section but for now, a few things that are happening that I thought I should let you know about.
I wasn’t going to write this in the newsletter again but I ran a Twitter poll and my followers thought it was the right thing to do. So, you have 24 hours.
With the premium, you will get access to
This week 5 people made that upgrade.
Ok, that’s enough of that.
Reminder
This Wednesday at 6 pm EST we are doing our first Rocketship Jobs Fireside Chat with Doug Ludlow of Mainstreet.
The goal of this event is to talk to Doug about what Mainstreet does as a business, the work culture, what they look for when hiring and the long term vision. The beginning will be a chat between him and me. I will open the conversation up to questions at the end.
There will be a limited amount of people invited to the chat and it will be first come first serve. If you are interested, please click the button below and I will send you an invite based on availability.
Potential Rockets
CommandDot is an interesting company to me. They are going after a rapidly growing and established market, scheduling. Calendly, another Rocketship Jobs company recently announced they are doing $60M ARR in this space.
The big question is can Calendly be unseated as the leader of this space? Do they need to be for CommandDot to become a huge company? Remote scheduling is growing as more people work remotely, can two $100M scheduling apps exist? Will one get purchased by a larger company like SuperHuman, Microsoft, etc? Only time will tell but either way, I am adding them to the database because I think the opportunity exists.
Public.com is a company that I have known about for a while but for some reason never featured on Rocketship Jobs. It is very similar to a previous company we featured named CommonStock (their home pages are actually very similar as well, shown above). The big opportunity for both companies is to become the social media site for RobinHood traders. Currently, that is /wallstreetbets on Reddit but if they can disrupt that there is a lot of money to be made. Public.com is currently winning the race. We will see if CommonStock can disrupt them in the future.
You can find more information on Public.com in the Rocketship Jobs Database.
I have yet to tell you how much I love Liquid Death. When I first heard about the company I didn’t believe in it but over the last 3-4 months, I have become a bigger believer than ever.
Liquid Death is a canned water company. Bottled water was valued at $185B market in 2015 and every company competes for the same customer today. Liquid Death is reframing who their customer is.
Instead of focusing on people doing Yoga, Working Out etc, they are focusing on people doing everything else such as partying, smoking, riding motorcycles, etc. This gives them an opportunity to create a brand around water for people that today are not marketed to at all.
Very interesting company and good to see they are getting the funding to accomplish this mission.
On their website, there are no job openings listed but the CEO's information is in the RSJ database, I would email him directly for opportunities.
You Should Know
If you’re wondering how I make decisions on companies to feature on the Rocketship Jobs database, one of the main factors is the industry/market. Josh Constine has written a lot about the Creator Economy, this article by him was right on brand and a great example of why companies like Kapwing and Descript are on the Rocketship Jobs database.
This is just a reminder. Use Twitter advanced search to send good cold emails. It works!
Ok, that’s it for now. More updates coming your way next week :)
