First and foremost, I want to welcome all of the new subscribers from Sam Parr and my tweet thread.
Thank you for joining us.
For those of you who haven’t seen the thread, you can click the picture above to view it.
For the new people, you can expect to receive these emails from me every Monday from now on.
Also, if you’re interested in getting more out of this, you can join the premium version of Rocketship Jobs.
This week 13 new people subscribed so they will now get access to:
Currently, you can sign up for a $1 trial. I am getting rid of the trial this week if I find the time. If you are thinking about it, you can save $19 if you do it now rather than later.
Ok, that's it. On to today's post.
I am excited.
For the last few weeks, I have been telling all of you about the Rocketship Jobs database but unless you’re on premium you haven't been able to use it.
With that in mind last week I asked people to submit requests to me. Today’s is from Caroline.
“Marketing roles at Series A startups in Los Angeles”
I ran a query on the database of 56 companies. The best opportunity I came across was from Pipe. They’re actually not a Series A company, they’re a Seed company but they have raised $66M dollars so I think they count.
This job isn’t posted on their website but I follow them very closely. The CEO recently posted this.
Since this is 2020 and everyone is thinking about remote jobs I thought it would be nice to share another opportunity that isn’t in LA but is hiring for marketing remotely:
Unioncrate -a supply chain platform that simplifies demand planning and daily operations for consumer goods companies.
You can find the contact information for the CEOs of both of these companies on the RSJ Database.
If you’re open to Seed and Series B companies as well. There are a total of 12 companies in that pool. 8 if you remove series B from the running.
Update to the Rockets
I haven't spoken about Zwift in a while but they are killing it. I called them the Peleton killer when I first found them. The more I learn the more I don’t think that's the case but I think there is room for Zwift to exist with Peloton. They recently raised an additional $450M to help them continue to create that reality. They’re now a Series C company so they don’t quite fit into the “early stage” bucket that Rocketship Jobs is built around but they are hiring in Engineering, Design, Marketing, HR, Product, QA and Support if you're interested. All of the positions are remote or in Rio De Janeiro,Brazil, Long Beach, California or London, UK.
Outschool raised $45M Series B. This was another company I was going to mention to Caroline that is hiring remote marketers but they’re now Series B so they don’t quite fit the description. That said, they are very interesting. Take a look at some of this quote from Forbes, “Last year revenue totaled $6.5 million, he (the CEO) says. In 2020 it’s on track to hit $100 million and he says Outschool is turning a profit.” That is insane growth. They are hiring in Marketing, Support, User Research, Engineering, Operations, HR and Product. All of the positions are remote or in San Fransico.
All contact information in the RSJ Database.
I have told a few of you about this idea but it is now becoming a reality.
I am starting a fireside chat series with the CEO’s of the Rocketship Jobs companies. Doug Ludlow from Mainsteet is going to be one of the early guests as he recently accepted to be on.
They’re growing like a rocketship and hiring a lot. It should be a good conversation.
These will take place over Zoom. I will have a fireside chat with the CEOs then I will open up to the people on the Zoom for questions.
My goal is to help people who are listening get a better understanding of the culture of the companies featured. It is easy to find out a lot about a startup but what it's like to work there is not one. I hope this can help give people a little more insight.
BTW, the recordings will be available to everyone but the Zoom will be premium subscribers first and opened up to everyone else afterward.
I’ll keep you posted on the date.
New Rocketship Jobs
This is a new section I am adding to the premium newsletter so please tell me your thoughts.
Essentially, I set up alerts for when a few Rocketship Jobs companies put up new jobs. This week the new postings are:
Feel free to apply directly but as always I would highly recommend reaching out directly to the CEO.
Good to know
I can’t fit this whole thread but this write up by Vieje Piauwasdy was amazing. Everyone here is trying to get into startups so understanding options is integral. If I were you I would click the picture to read #5 through #13.
Are you familiar with Casual? I haven’t figured out how to use the application well but I love this template they put together. Click the link to learn more about startup equity vs joining a big company.
Lastly, a reminder…
Also, just to let you know, we all are interesting if we want to be. One easy way to be interesting is side projects. Do what others aren’t, it’s the fastest way to separate yourself from the competition.
Ok, that’s it for now. Good luck with your job hunt / search for the perfect home. If you have any questions please feel free to message me. I love talking to people via email.
